Play, it turns out, is essential to who we are. It’s actually built into the core of our brains, the part we share in common with dogs, dolphins, and so many other forms of life. No wonder nearly every villain in children’s literature is dead set against kids playing. As the saying goes: We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.
